No happy ending

I am back to my house for Christmas holidays. Moving back and forth for Europe during this period is not so nice, but fortunately I had no problem with flight. Then, back home I was speaking to my brother about the blog started here at Squakenet, and we did end up with nice old memories.

In particular we've been discussing about those videogames that we played togheter, where we spent plenty of consecutive hours to see how it finish, and then, remaining like a dumb in front of it.

I remind the first one was one we used to play to Commodore 64, it's name was Dribbling. It was a soccer simulation of italian Serie A, with teams and player of first 90s. Quite nice play, same style as Kick Off 2. At the end of each game (around 15 minutes) there was the newspaper with the result:

Videogames and movies

It passed a couple of weeks since the last time I wrote a blog. Holiday time came also for me and a week of full relax forgetting about everything but food, alcohol and sun was deserved (it really was!). "Las playas mejicanas" help a lot in this purpose during this period of the year.

The only drawback is the long fly time, so, nothing else than watching all the movies that went on the screen. At that moment I took the idea of this post, because it went on Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time.

Voice from Monkey Island

During last week I was having a beer with one colleague of mine, Matteo, and, as usual beetween tech guys we started talking about games. Well, discussions with Matteo are two, games or girls, so it happens frequently (less frequently than speaking about girls) to end up speaking about (old) videogames.

Nothing special, we were chatting about the firsts episodes of Monkey Island series, and I made an observation. Who knows how the series have been developed if Ron Gilbert would have followed it instead of leaving Lucas Arts.

Portable USB games

The dream of ubiquitous computing is always nearer. Every year new systems and software tecniques bring us toward the cloud (not literally guys...). I've been reading of open source project to bring DOS operating system running from the internet, to make us play games directly from browser (pc or phone, doesn't matter).

Well, it's something that could be possible, but, there is not the economic justification for putting up a serious business. However, I would like to talk you about something that while waiting this cloud computing product, can fill the gap: it's Retroplay USB.

Clyde Radcliffe Exterminates All The Unfriendly Repulsive Earth-ridden Slime

You know guys, here at Squakenet we try to find the best abandonware resource of the net. We generally look for PC Games, but we are old gamers and Amiga, Commodore 64 and 80's videogames platform are something we loved as well as pc games. To make a long story short, I was looking youtube home page, when I see the following:

Strategy changed

Time for the second post in this new place opened just a week ago. Let's start with a concrete topic, I would like to share with you my thoughts about Civilization series. We all know that repeat theirself it's a hard mission, and generally any series finish to ruin the reputation of the ancestor. However, I would like to focus on the changes that Civilization had along the years, taking in consideration it's going to be released the fifth chapter, Civilization V.

Hello (Abandonware) World!

Hi to everybody,
I've been thinking opening a discussion place like a blog in the last month, and I think the moment is right. Squakenet is living its 10th year and a place where allowing discussion between all game lovers is more than necessary.

With this first post I want to introduce Squakenet blog, the name is yet temporary as well as design. During next weeks you will be able to see several new features that we are thinking to celebrate such an important anniversary. Squakenet goal has been the same during all this years: give you the possibility to live again old emotions, playing the most beautiful games of ever.
