Indeed, the game took 12 year to be released (I hope not so much to be developed!): is that the reason why is it called forever? and the final result is not even what after all this time waiting one can expect. The trailer we're posting is the usual one trying to convince us this is a game we have to play, but the first reviews coming out during these days are not of the same opinion:
Now, more or less you know the history behind this irriverent character born in 1991 from Apogee's factory with a platform game named Duke Nukem. He represent the macho anti-hero predestined to save the world. He always reminded me "Snake" Plissken from "Escape from New York" movie. The first game get you forward in 1997. Hey, also the movie was set in 1997. I have the feeling that someone from Apogee took some reference points...
Well, the storyline is completely different and was followed up by a sequel two years after (Duke Nukum 2, called Nukum because they discovered there was another Duke Nukem in a cartoon) with the same engine, so, platform based. The real success was given by the 3D action game released in 1996, after the success of Doom series. The enemy is always the same, the alien coming from outer world, but the character was given a completely different attitude. He is the "son of a *****" that drinks, smokes, pays women for strip tease and kill the enemies while making the first activities.
Sure, he resulted a great character in video games history, reason why this long development should have done better. As far as I see a nice job has been done with cut scenes, but finally it's not a movie! Reading this review it does not seem he made a good first impression, and we know the first impression is the one counting much. I leave you the Amazon store link where you can get the game, whilst you already know you can download the first episodes from Squakenet pages.
